I love painting the sea. The only thing constant about seascapes is that it’s always changing from time of day, to the time of season, from gorgeous colors, to the speed of water coming on shore, the height and power of breakers, from the pattern of sea-foam, to the characters of the coastline. Then you have the sky, oh man those wonderful colors, cloud patterns, and atmosphere – makes for an artists’ dream.
I’m working on three seascape paintings, this is the first just completed. Robyn Lovelock, a photographer from pmp, took a magnificent reference photo of Apollo Bay that I’ve used for the basis of this painting.
I hope you enjoy this little piece of heaven.
What a beautiful painting you are so talented.
Thank you so much!
Makes me want to keep walking to the horizon.
Thanks Lauren, appreciate your comment!
Mary, I can’t believe what you are able to achieve with oil pastel! I’m astonished.
Thank you so much Elena, appreciate your compliment – I love working with oil pastels. I really enjoyed visiting your blog, looking forward to seeing more of your works. Mary
A very calm and serene painting. A beautiful and gorgeous artwork.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your comment!
Beautiful seascape Mary. Much nicer than the ones we have in NYC right now with Hurricane Sandy. Your’s is much more relaxing.
Ah Carol, thank you so much – sure appreciate your comments! I hope you are staying safe as Sandy roars ashore ~ Mary
P.S. the painting I’m working on now is sort of an angry wave, but nothing compared to what the East Coast is experiencing. Take care –
Hi Mary! This piece feels so peaceful. It reminded of Sarasota. We took some pictures of the beach. I keep saying I need to try it out, but haven’t come around to do it. I am painting more, now that I am away from the internet. I do miss you all though. It was nice to be connected again! I will check-in again soon.
Keep on painting these inspiring scenes! 😀
Hi Patricia – so nice to hear from you again. Thank you for your wonderful comments. I’m glad you’re painting more, you have amazing talent – hope to see them posted.
Indeed, a little piece of heaven!
Thank you for your nice comment!
Love it all, Mary! The sky, the sea, the beach…beautiful.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind comments. Thanks and give your beautiful “Goldens” a big hug ~
The water, which seems to be alive, reminds me of my favorite beach, horseshoe bay. Do you live near the sea, Mary? I can see a lighthouse from my own house! Hence, i also love the sea.
Wonderful question. I used to live on the west coast and the east coast – both offered me wonderful views of the sea. Sometimes you don’t know what you’ve missed until it’s gone. Your location must be “The Artist’ Dream.”
