I love a good wave, nothing like the power of the ocean to stir up lots of emotion. The oil pastel painting is an 8×10, completed with a soft pastel underpainting washed with alcohol.
The painting is based on an image taken in Northern Ireland by a photographer at pmp. They’ve got some good rough waters in that part of the world!
Beautiful painting !
Love the foam, great work !!!
Hi Petronette, so nice to hear from you. Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback on the sea foam!!
mary, this one reminds me of winslow homer’s work. it’s very soothing and captures the essence of the sea. z
Hi Lisa – that is such a wonderful compliment, wow! Thank you so much. There is something magical about the sea and to paint it, well that’s a real treat. Thanks!! Mary
Mary you have captured the feeling of standing right there, on the shore. I can feel the mist on my face. Outstanding!
Oh Elena, you made my day! Thanks so much, yours are feelings that I was hoping to capture and I’m so glad you could experience my intentions with this piece. Thanks for commenting! Mary

Thank you so much Rexlin I appreciate your comments!! Mary
I can even see where the wave is building up below the surface there ready to roll over the top ..and yes plenty of energy in that wave that has dashed over the rock in the foreground Mary 🙂
Lovely .
Ah Poppy, thank you – yes you feel and see the power of the energy right? It’s a lot of fun bringing this into a painting. Thanks so much ~ Mary
I can feel the power of the waves, with the mist falling on my face. This is beautiful!
Hi Bella, thank you so much. There is something very special about painting water – I can feel the movements while spreading the oil pastels. My favorite subject.
Great wave… I can feel the strength… it is rough. you made it so real.
Thank you! I so appreciate hearing your thoughts on energy. It’s rough and wild, right? Just what I was looking for. Thank you so much ~
beautiful Mary …………. really stunning 🙂
Miss Cat! So wonderful to hear from you – hope your ankle is better. Thank you so much for your lovely comment on Energy, I really appreciate it. We all need a little blast of energy, at least every now and then!
Tempestuous, like an opera diva in a velour manteau of colbalt blue.
Ah Ariel’s Prospero! Thank you and so happy that that you love the velvety colbalt! Tthe water was such a deep color it was great fun exploring by mixing and blending colors to get a similar effect.
Wonderful! This one could easily have a place in my room. To see every morning when I wake up. Or in our summer house by the sea. I can almost hear the sound of the waves.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment – I’m glad you like it. I love the sea and love even more painting it. It was a lot of fun working those oil pastels on this wave!
