This weeks word challenge contained: orange, pumpkin and spooky. Got two out of three words and had a ball.
Halloween is just about here, this is my way of starting the bewitching hour! This is an oil pastel, 7×5 on pastel paper.
Hope you enjoy!
Reference image was from Gwen Card, a wonderful artist and photographer with pmp.
This is incredible!!!
Hi Mamie, thanks very much – glad you enjoy my little salute to Halloween!
This is stunning. Love the colors and smoothness.
Hi Mona, so happy to hear from you. Thanks very much for your comment means a lot from an accomplished oil pastelist!
I can feel the surface of that pumpkin, Mary. The color is absolutely RICH! in this.
Thanks Leslie, this was lots and lots of layers of color built up. One of the reasons why I love oil pastels, you can get a really rich appearance (or mud [ugh] if you aren’t careful).
Awwwwww, love ,love , love it !
This is really amazing , Mary ! 😃❤️
Thanks Violet for your wonderful comments on this chilly morning – they bring warmth to my Sunday. Thank you!! Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
Mary … What a Powerful Pumpkin with its Glowing Orange and its Purple Rage Suffused Stem 🙂
Love it !!
Different for me, right Poppy? Thanks very much – the composition is what caught my attention and the oil pastels gave the richness that this Fall vegetable deserves.
Oh this fabulous ! What wonderful color and love the composition Mary.
Hi Emily, wonderful hearing from you – the composition is what caught my attention. I really enjoyed myself developing the skin of the pumpkin. Thanks, I saw your great pumpkin/squash photographs – loved them all!
A marvelous pumpkin Mary! I’ve always found the stems to be quite expression, and your’s is fantastic!
Hi Elena, thanks so much! The stem took the longest to develop, for exactly the reason you mentioned,, so a lot of colors went into it and eventually it started showing itself.
Love, love, LOVE!!!! ❤ 🙂 🙂
Hi Linz, thanks so much – glad you’re enjoying this piece!
Wow Mary, your shades and shadows give that pumpkin a realistic feel. The colors are so bright and happy, definitely not spooky… heehee, but I love it! 😀 Great talent!
Hi Patricia, thanks very much – this one went very quick for me (which is surprising) and really enjoyed mixing and blending the OPs on this piece. Glad you are enjoying the bright colors, thought this would appeal to you!
This is very good Mary, the medium you used is striking yet oil like…
Thanks Pink! Oil Pastel has tendencies like oil, because the formula is oil-based just not in liquid form.
I like it very much.
Thanks Annie!
No spook about it – happy icon of autumn.
Hi Craig, thank you – nothing like the colors of Autumn to close out the warm weather. The pumpkin reminds me of apple cider and donuts we used to have when growing up.
I thought it was a photo! Beautiful, Mary!
Thanks Francesca! This was a fun painting to do.
Amazing Mary! Your talent is awesome!
Oh Dorann you are so nice – thank you for your wonderful comment and compliment!
Just beautiful Mary!
Thanks Tim!
It may not be spooky…but it is a beauty!
Ha, you are so right – I was thinking of carving (painting) a face for spooky! Thanks ~
Well, you are right you got orange and pumpkin but you also got beautiful, Mary!! 🙂
Hi Marina, thank you so much! You are so sweet – Happy Tuesday to you!
