This month’s Wetcanvas Challenge had Kingfisher as one of the subjects to paint in oil pastels, so I thought I would give it a go.
Kingfisher (7×5 – oil pastel) was painted on Mi-Teintes pastel paper, using mostly Senneliers and Neopastels.
Hope you enjoy – time to begin my next two winter paintings.
Wonderful!
Thank you so much!
Finally getting some time to catch up on my blog reading. I love the richness of color in this piece.
Thanks Mona, so nice to hear from you. And I just remembered that I owe you a response to your email, how’s that for memory?! Not good, so sorry.
Oh, the halcyon days. This is beautiful, Mary.
Thank you Ariel’s Prospero – happy you’ve enjoyed it!

Your talent is forever obvious…. the Kingfisher looks as if he’s thinking out his next move. Beautiful!
Thank you Dorann for your beautiful compliment. Yes, he is just checking things out before he is off again! These are very cute birds, aren’t they?
So lovely.
Have a nice day Mary.

Thank you Marina for your nice comment!
Mary what are you doing with such a great collection?
Great question Doron, I still haven’t decided. I have some ideas, but not ready to implement.
I think one great exhibition although they say now a day that online is better to sell then any other way. Mind you how do you feel about getting rid of such great work? I think that is the question but it is very personal. I am sure your walls are full too.
What gorgeous colours Mary ! A micro moment of stillness before that sharp eye spots a fish to dive for 🙂
I’ve only ever seen two in my life … a bluegreen darting flash and then gone …
Thanks Poppy – sounds like you are a real fan of Kingfishers. I have never seen one so I was hoping that the colors were close. Love their collar, makes a proud statement for the little guy!
