“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up” – Pablo Picasso
My usual pumpkin painting is of the serious kind, but this year I thought why not have some fun. Pablo had the right idea – I’ve taken it a step further, keeping the child-like fun in the grown-up artists creation ~
2016 Pumpkin – Halloween, is an oil pastel (4.5 x 7) that was painted on ochre tinted Mi-Teintes pastel paper. A still life of pumpkins took a dramatic turn when a daylight scene turned into a misty moon-lit evening sky and overhead well – a crying shrill could be heard from the local witch riding her broom. “Ah my little ones . . .”
Here is to all those little ghosts and goblins who will “Trick or Treat” ~ Happy Halloween!

Speaks to the child, woman, man, being. An image which makes you feel youthful and yet calculated in the exercise of reason. Simply amazing. Happy holidays to you Mary and the family. Thank you always sharing quality. Cheers!

Mary … I’ve seen plenty of pumpkins but no flying Witches on broomsticks . Yet …
Lovely magic here !
Hi Louisa , oh yes could you just imagine looking up at the sky and Halloween night and seeing the flying figure! How funny and just a little bit spooky! Thanks so much ~ hope you have a wonderful weekend.
I like the turn you’ve taken in your traditional pumpkin painting by including this whimsical witch. She adds that “what if..?” which is the spookiness of the season. But she’s not scary at all…she looks like she knows where she’s going, in a misty, ethereal sort of way….
Thanks Cynthia, it was a fun piece to do. I like your read on the painting as the witch passes through . . wonder where she’ll park her broom?
I’ve never been a big Halloween person. BUT, if I was going to purchase something, I could certainly be persuaded to look at this lovely and cute painting. Love the witch on the broom. 🙂
Thank you so much Judy, appreciate the compliment. The witch came to the scene at the last minute and then kind of stole the show. Have a wonderful weekend.
