Dish of Limes – acrylic painting

My time continues to be limited, but every once in a while I am able to paint and have recently completed several pieces.  My dear and amazing blogging friend, Theadora Brack, has encouraged me to post some of the works that have been on my easel.

Dish of Limes, an acrylic painting (5.5 x 7.5) was done on Canson canva-paper.  This paper held up well to the thickly applied wet layers of acrylics and some scumbling – so far I really liked the response of this canvas paper.  My goal with this piece was to give the bowl substance, but at the same time leave the viewer with an impression of soft infused lighting.  It was an interesting still life that let me continue my exploration of painting with acrylics ~

Thanks for checking in ~ to all my blogging friends that celebrate the holidays, Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2018!

So special to see you Jodi – you’ve made my day! Thank you for being so kind in your comments and that you enjoyed the limes painting – it was an interesting exercise. To purchase someone’s work is such a compliment, that means a lot. I haven’t started to sell my pieces yet, maybe 2018 will be the year you never know. I’m still smiling that you have visited my blog, thank you my dear cousin – love you!

    • Mary says:

Thank you for your enthusiastic response to the painting, you know how to make someone’s day! Much appreciated ~

      • Mary (if I may) your work is stunning. I commented on this one in particular because it is just that beautiful, but I would say that ALL your art is gorgeous. I was captivated by the oceanic scenes, as if I was there viewing it myself. Seriously!

        • Mary says:

Thank you for being so generous in your comments and compliments, it really means a lot. Ocean scenes are my favorite to draw and paint, although I still don’t have confidence in painting them with acrylics – one day for sure. It’s a great subject to work out, took beautifully with oil pastels and awesome with graphite (which was a surprise to me). I do appreciate your encouraging comments, thank you for taking the time to go through my portfolio’s – I’m glad that they brought to that moment of being on water’s edge.

          • They so did. There was a beach with just such a spot, I’ve visited many times, and your depiction was almost like being there again. I loved it. Happy memories, even though I know it’s not this same place. Tyvm for sharing such beautiful works of art. I treasured the time spent enjoying, and look forward to visiting once the season is over and I have more time merry Christmas to you and yours.

  7. What a beautiful painting!

Limelicious! Limes are in my top 5 foods. I always have a bowl of limes around. Your painting makes me want to bake a lime pie, then eat pasta out of the bowl. Mary, I can smell the scent of lime when I look at your painting.

    • Mary says:

Total compliment my dear Resa when my painting can induce your smell scene. Love it and I’ll bet your piece would be delicious!! Good to see you and happy holidays!!

  21. So lovely to see you, Mary before 2018!
I love this dish of limes. Limes are among my most favorite fruit since they enhance fish and seafood so well. As a color it is also gorgeous, fresh and crisp. The dish itself and the limes go so well together. That would be lovely on a kitchen wall.
Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year to you too!

    • Mary says:
